Following the concept model, including what feels like a couple of years of spy pictures, Jaguar Land Rover has revealed its new Range Rover Evoque Convertible, a luxury SUV-based convertible.
The production model features a cloth roof, while a rear luggage compartment (a claimed 251 litres, with the roof up or down) has also been incorporated at the rear. The cloth roof will only be available in black, although the car itself is offered with the choice of 13 colours.
More importantly is the fact that the roof can be lowered in 18 seconds, and raised in 21 seconds – both at speeds of up to 48 km/h. The latter rather important if you don’t want to get caught out at the traffic lights!
As is the case with most convertibles, the Evoque also offers roll-over protection in the case of such an accident.
One of the engine options will be the 2,0-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol developing 179 kW/340 N.m. Even though tipping the scales at 1 936 kg, connected to the 9-speed automatic transmission, it will accelerate to 96 km/h in a claimed 7,8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 km/h.
The Evoque still retains all its off-road systems, while the electronic- and safety systems have been recalibrated to cater for these potential off-road conditions.
The Evoque Convertible is set to go on sale mid-2016, however, it seems that production will be limited, although we doubt that would really be the case.
Expect this Evoque to be launched in South Africa during the second half of 2016.
