Not too long ago we saw Toyota reveal its MX-5 fighting S-FR. Now the Japanese manufacturer has revealed a more hardcore version of this little coupe; this is the S-FR Racing Concept. The Racing Concept will be on display at next year’s Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.
The much more aggressive S-FR sports a very track-orientated body with wide flared fenders and notably large front & rear spoilers. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic canards and a vented hood are also used to provide more of a racing ambiance.
Dimensions of the S-FR Racing Concept stand at an overall length of 4 100 mm which makes it just about 200 mm longer than the road-going version. The car is also now lower and wider than but retains the same wheelbase. The Racing Concept will also most likely be lighter than the 980 kg claimed for the standard concept.
Toyota is still not offering any information regarding the engine but certain assumptions are circulating around an 85 kW 1,2-litre turbocharged engine found in the European Auris or a 96 kW version of the 1,5-litre naturally aspirated engine from the Japanese spec Corolla with minor enhancements. These engines will either be mated to a six-speed manual or CVT transmission.
Expect more information on this S-FR to be released after the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon.
