After seeing several leaks of this model in the form of a die-cast scale car from a warehouse in China the Swedish manufacturer has finally decided to take the wraps of the luxurious S90. The range-topping S90 aims to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi’s A6 as an executive class sedan.
Seeing that this is just a teaser, Volvo has released no figures regarding its official specs but they do claim to carry on the work done in the XC90 to which the S90 will most likely share a lot of similarities, especially regarding the interior.
What we do know about the Volvo S90 is that it will feature something called Pilot Assist; a semi-autonomous driving aid which is essentially what you would experience from the adaptive cruise control found in the S-Class. Most importantly, however it will come equipped with the new T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Using a highly advanced chassis simulator, Volvo also claims that the S90 will be notably more advanced than previous models in terms of dynamics and performance. The Volvo S90 also boasts a new large animal detection system which, like the S-Class is capable of detecting large animals at any time of the day but is capable of initiating warning and brake support to help avoid any contact with said animal.
Expect more information on this after the public reveal at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Volvo S90 is expected to launch in South Africa late next year.
