Following the official reveal of the eighth-generation Toyota Hilux, its popular SUV derivative, the Fortuner, has been spotted completely undisguised.
One of the most popular sports utility vehicles on the South African market, the Fortuner continues to appeal thanks to its rugged underpinnings, seven seat configuration and its maker’s enviable reputation for reliability and resale.
Based on these images, however, it would appear the next-generation Fortuner will not necessarily share many of its styling ques with the Hilux on which its based. Instead, it looks as though the company’s next Fortuner will feature more striking lines linking it more closely with other SUVs in the stable. A closer look at the interior though suggests much of the cabin will be borrowed from the forthcoming Hilux.
Likewise, expect the engine lineup to mimic that of the next Hilux range and include new 110 kW/400 N.m 2,4- and 130 kW/450 N.m 2,8-litre diesel engine options, as well as all-new transmission (six-speed automatic and five- and six-speed manual) technologies.
Expect the local launch of the new Fortuner to follow shortly after the introduction of the Hilux in early 2016.
