Latin NCAP has released the results of its crash test of the new Volkswagen Polo Sedan (which is badged as the Virtus in South America), with the new saloon scoring a full five stars.
The Polo Sedan registered an effective 32,56 out of a maximum of 34,00 points for adult occupant safety and 43,00 points out of a maximum of 49,00 points for child occupant safety.
The safety authority said that since the Brazil-built Polo Sedan and the already tested Polo hatchback are “the same car from the front up to the B-pillar”, the results of the hatchback’s frontal impact and pole impact tests are valid for the Polo Sedan.
But, since the Polo Sedan has a longer wheelbase than the hatchback model, the side-impact test was carried out on the former, where it showed “the same performance” as the latter.
The model tested featured four airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, Isofix child-seat anchors and front seatbelt pre-tensioners as standard.
“Virtus [Polo Sedan] is further proof that the local industry can produce five-star cars at more and more affordable prices, offering better safety and earlier than any governmental requirement in our region,” said Alejandro Furas, secretary general of Latin NCAP.
