Next gen. Nissan GT-R to get race engine?

By: Steve Smith

We’ve heard reports that the next-generation Nissan GT-R could well be powered by a hybrid system similar to the one in their GT-R LM Nismo race car that will compete at Le Mans this year.

That 938 kw monster features a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine with additional electric motor that will sit in the front of the car (confirmed by Nissan and not mid-mounted as earlier rumours had suggested). The power is fed to the four-wheels via a five-speed sequential transmission with a Tilton three-plate carbon clutch and a pneumatic paddle shift system.

According to Germany’s Autobild magazine, the hybrid system will be identical, but will be significantly detuned for lower fuel consumption. Power output around 515 kW has been mooted.
