Hyundai have revealed design renderings of the second gen. i20 ahead of the car’s unveiling at the Paris Motorshow in early October. This next iteration of their hugely successful B-segment hatch was penned at Hyundai’s European design centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Dubbed Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, it shows the second generation of the brand’s acclaimed design philosophy.
Hyundai describe the design as characterized by a long hood, sculpted body sides and a dark treatment for the C-Pillar. The front of the car features a new hexagonal grille and a thin horizontal strip, which connects the headlamps. At the rear, the Hyundai i20 features a wraparound rear window that blends into the C-pillars, which are dark-coloured to accentuate the car’s side profile. The car’s a long bonnet and sculpted body sides, says Hyundai, are aimed at creating a “powerful stance”.
Hyundai has not revealed the technical specifications of the car, but we anticipate carry-over from the existing i20 engine range – a 64 kW 1,2-litre petrol, 1,1-litre CRDi diesel (not available in SA), and two variants of the 1,4-litre CRDi (74 kW and 66 kW). There’s also a hotter performance variant – the i20 N – that will arrive some time after the car goes on sale in Europe in early 2015.
