Renault might have launched the Clio-based Captur, but another crossover has now been revealed by the French manufacturer.
Called the Renault Kwid, this little crossover is based on the CMF-A platform which was co-developed by Nissan, Renault’s partner.
The crossover influence in the design does have a positive effect on the ground clearance though, with a claimed 180 mm it should be able to tackle selective gravel roads.
Measuring 3,68 metres long and 1,58 metres wide, the Kwid is a very compact vehicle and is said to slot in below the Captur. This is also the case with the available specifications on the interior. It is a simplistic layout, but the centre console does feature a touchscreen for the infotainment system.
In terms of the power, the Kwid uses a new, tiny 800 cm3, three-cylinder petrol engine.
The Kwid is also likely to be sold in other markets (outside India) as a Dacia-badged model.
A spokesperson for Renault South Africa confirmed that the Kwid is currently not under consideration for local introduction.
