REVEALED: Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept

By: Steve Smith

Looking at this Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, it appears the team at Crewe are looking to take on Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin with a new two-seater supercar.

Unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show, the EXP 10 Speed is “… one vision for Bentley’s future,” according to company chairman Wolfgang Dürheimer. “It has the potential to be the pinnacle luxury two-seat sports car.”

Bentley are being a little cagey saying its production is not guaranteed, but rather must be seen as something that will gauge potential interest in a production version. You will remember that they did a similar thing with Bentayga-previewing EXP 9 F concept unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

If it does see production, it will slot in alongside the Continental GT and likely be based on the MSB flexible architecture of Bentley’s Volkswagen Group parent. The MSB architecture is designed for cars of all formats positioned above the Audi range in the VW Group.

Under the concepts bonnet is a hybrid powertrain, although no details of its specs have been released. Expect a production version to have a tweaked version of the Audi-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 used in other Bentleys.

Whatever it is, it will make for a fast car. “Performance goals, including top speed, are set to challenge competitors and define a new segment benchmark,” said Bentley.

Whether it sees production or not, the EXP 10 Speed 6 does give us a clue as to future Bentley design direction and technology. Likely to feature in, for example, the next Continental GT, are the EXP 10 Speed 6’s muscular, athletic surfaces that, say Bentley, have been influenced by the aerodynamic shapes of aircraft fuselage and wings.

There’s also a new three-dimensional interpretation of the iconic Bentley grille that showcases a new 3D metal-printing production technique.
