The crossover segment has fast become a hotspot in the automotive sphere with more manufacturers offering a slew of models with mildly jacked-up suspension, protective body cladding and a hint of ‘just been kite surfing’ about the accoutrements.
So, it seems reasonable to assume that Daimler’s smart division – well known for its quirkily styled urban runabouts – would be apt to jump on the bandwagon.
In a recent interview with Auto Express Daimler Chairman, Dieter Zetsche, hinted that the idea of a smart crossover is being explored.
He told the UK magazine that “… if we were to go for any expansion with the Smart family, then the SUV segment would definitely be one to go into.”
Even so, Zetsche remained tentative regarding an actual timescale citing the company’s focus on its ForTwo and ForFour model lines and their eventual electric spinoffs
