Suzuki SA has been on a new model offensive since early 2014 and has launched its seventh new model locally in the last 18 months with the local arrival of the Vitara.
Funky looks
Research conducted by the Japanese firm confirmed that people shopping in the small SUV segment place the vehicle’s appearance at the very top of their priority list when shopping. As such the Vitara has stylish looks that may have a passing resemblance to some Range Rover models.
Suzuki offers the newcomer in a range of bright colours, and if you are so inclined, buyers can opt for a two-tone scheme, with a contrasting black roof.
Customisable
In keeping with the outlook of a young, urban buyer Suzuki SA offers a range of customising options. These include a body coloured panel for the facia and/or one of two pre-selected packages called Urban or Rugged.
Simple power
Suzuki SA’s research showed that buyers aren’t convinced by overly complicated powertrain systems and therefore there is only one engine option available. All models are powered by a 1,6-litre naturally-aspirated engine that produces 86 kW and 151 N.m of torque.
There are two transmission options though: a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic, as well as the choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The AllGrip four-wheel drive models offer a pre-programmed mode for off-roading, similar to systems found in much higher end SUVs.
Well priced
Three trim levels will be offered: GL, GL+ and GLX. The entry-level model will only be available in two-wheel drive manual while the other two grades can be had in automatic guise as well.
The Hungarian-built model will be available from one of the firm’s 42 dealers countrywide in the upcoming weeks. Incidentally this is only the second model to wear this nameplate since it was introduced in 1988.
