Ever fancied a road-legal Formula 1 car? Well, such a thing exists. And it’s up for auction in the United Kingdom.
Design and race engineers at Lola were once challenged to build a road-legal F1. And, some 15 years later, the F1R arrived. Admirable dedication just to win a bet…
The F1R was first registered in October 2009 and still adheres to the UK’s SVA government tests.
This model uses a 1996 Lola chassis along with a turbocharged four-cylinder 2,0-litre Cosworth YB (worth 276 kW) mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The seller claims that the F1R is a comfortable machine to pilot in traffic, which is pretty hard to believe. He also reckons that its condition is as good as new.
It will be auctioned by Bonhams in London on 7 December, where it is expected to fetch at least R962 600.
