It is no secret that Volkswagen, Bugatti’s parent company, is working on a Veyron replacement. In May we reported on a video that was shot showing the latest development mules undergoing testing.
Now it has been reported that VW’s CEO, Martin Winterkorn has confirmed plans for a hybrid-powered Bugatti. This means the Veyron replacement will also offer a hybrid drivetrain, as is already the case with the now discontinued Porsche 918 Spyder, sold out LaFerrari and McLaren P1.
However, the total power output of the new Veyron will definitely surpass all three of these hypercars. It is rumoured that peak power delivery could be as high as 1 118 kW (1 500 bhp), the sprint to 100 km/h will edge closer to 2,0 seconds, while top speed could surpass 450 km/h.
We will also expect the VW Group’s latest turbo technology to be implemented in this hypercar, which means electrically-powered turbochargers. This will basically eliminate any turbo lag.
On the other side of the scale, Winterkorn has also confirmed that VW is working on three budget models. The first model should be launched in 2018 and cost between €8 000 and €10 000.
The only other details that were confirmed is the fact that a sedan, hatchback and crossover will become available within this new brand. These models will be built in China and is aimed at the Chinese market. However, it could also potentially be exported to other markets.
