An interesting new report out of Europe suggests that Volkswagen has plans to offer a new bakkie based on its Atlas crossover.
According to Automotive News Europe, the Wolfsburg-based brand will unveil a concept (alongside another Atlas-based show car) previewing the bakkie at the upcoming New York International Auto Show.
Unlike the Amarok, which runs on a ladder-frame chassis, the proposed production version of the new pick-up would share its MQB platform with the Atlas and thus take the fairly unusual form of a unibody bakkie (à la Honda Ridgeline), targeting pure lifestyle buyers.
The report added that the new bakkie would likely be built in the Tennessee in the United States, citing a source as saying the planned pick-up would probably be sold exclusively in the US and Canada.
