A fresh report out of Germany claims that Volkswagen will reveal a coupé-style version of its Tiguan in 2018.
According to Auto Bild, the Wolfsburg automaker plans to take advantage of the increasing popularity of coupé-style crossovers by creating one of its own. The report adds that this sleeker derivative – with a dramatically sloped roofline and largely restyled rear end – would sit at the summit of the range and boast a more premium cabin than the standard versions.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard a rumour about a possible Tiguan “coupé”. Indeed, a VW executive confirmed the model’s existence (if only in prototype form) in 2016, describing it as “a very exciting car”.
That same official suggested that the Tiguan line-up would grow into a larger “family”, a move that has kicked off with the launch of the long-wheelbase, seven-seater Tiguan Allspace (which is scheduled to hit South Africa in April 2018).
