VW’s underrated and overlooked Scirocco Coupe has undergone mild midlife surgery, helping to uplift its appearance.
Exterior changes include new headlights and tail lights, as well as revised bumper styling. The large air inlet in the lower area of the front section and the upper air inlet have been redesigned and are now in black. A revised front bumper features aerodynamic ‘blades’ in the outer section with integrated indicator lights, daytime running lights and fog lights.
The LED tail lights are a standard feature across the range. A re-sculpted rear bumper features a black diffuser. All models, barring the entry-level 1,4 TSI boast new alloy wheel designs. Five new colours are available Flash Red, Black Oak, Oryx White, Ultra Violet and Pyramid Gold.
Changes have not taken place under the bonnet as buyer have the same set of TSI engines to choose from namely 1,4 TSI (118 kW), 2,0 TSI (155 kW) and 2,0 TSI (188kW) as found in the Scirocco R. The 1,4 TSI is only manual (6-speed) as the other two models come standard with VW’s dual-clutch 6-speed DSG transmission.
Inside, the dashboard has been updated, with new-look dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console, consisting of a chronometer and boost pressure and oil temperature gauges. Standard equipment includes fatigue detection, Hill Hold Assist, Climatronic automatic air conditioner, multi-function display, Radio/CD with 6-CD changer and eight speakers, Bluetooth cellphone preparation and USB port.
