XX edge for 599 GTO

With the track-only 599 XX debuted to Ferrari customers at the Circuit de Valencia last month, all eyes have been on the next Maranello thoroughbred – the first to wear the GTO badge since the iconic 288 GTO of 1984. Details have been pretty speculative, but at least now there are believable images of the 599 GTO to go by.

Since Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa confirmed the production of the 599 GTO in February this year, public and press have been wondering just what this special version of the 599 would look like. Now, thanks to two images taken at a supposed special viewing of what could be the production car in Europe, it seems that the GTO isn’t far off in looks from the 599XX racecar after all.

The images, courtesy of Caradisiac and TeamSpeed, reveal the GTO’s vented bonnet, a bodykit similar to that featured on the racecar, what appears to be a carbon fibre roof, and even the same wheels. The extensive bodywork aids aerodynamic optimisation, and weight has been reduced by 70 kg from a normal 599 GTB Fiorano.

Over and above the HGTE package that was made available last year which featured a revised gearbox and tightened suspension, expect the GTO to be even more compliant in the handling department, as well as a tweaked 520 kW version of the standard 6,0-litre V12.

Initially expected to make its début at the Geneva Motor Show, the 599 GTO will officially be unveiled later this week. According to MotorAuthority, pricing is expected to start at €267 136.
