Chinese company NextEV has launched its new electric Nio car brand, with its first product smashing the Nürburgring Nordschliefe lap record for EVs.
The Nio EP9 lapped the famous 20,8 km circuit in 7:05,12, making it the fastest electric vehicle around the track. And faster than, say, a Nissan GT-R Nismo (07:08,68), too.
With four high-performance inboard motors and four individual gearboxes, the EP9 delivers a pleasingly round 1 000 kW, accelerating from zero to 200 km/h in 7,1 seconds and on to a top speed of 313 km/h.
With an interchangeable battery system, Nio says the EP9 is designed to be charged in 45 minutes and has a claimed range of 427 km.
“The Nio EP9 was born to push limits and is the first stage of automotive production for Nio. It is a statement of our vision and technical and manufacturing capabilities,” said NextEV founder and chairman, William Li.
“It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles. We believe that when the car ownership experience exceeds expectations, electric vehicles will become the natural choice for everyone, leading to a more sustainable tomorrow. And with that, our vision of a blue sky will come true,” he added.
