And then there were three. The top finalists for 2013 World Car of the Year were announced at a conference held at this year’s Geneva Motor Show ahead of the final announcement at the New York International Auto Show on March 28th.
The entries cover the following categories: 2013 World CAR of the Year, World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year. A panel of 66 judges from around the globe determine the winner of each category (excluding Design). Representing South Africa is none other than CAR magazine editor Hannes Oosthuizen.
Ok, so the top three sobriquet has become something of a loose term seeing as the initial round of voting has seen the appointment of four finalists for the 2013 World Car of the Year gong:
- Mercedes-Benz A-Class
- Porsche Boxster/Cayman
- Toyota 86/GT86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S
- Volkswagen Golf 7
On the World Performance Car of the Year front, the following finalists have cracked the nod:
- Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
- Porsche Boxster/Cayman
- Toyota 86/GT86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S
The World Green Car award finalists are:
- Renault Zoe
- Tesla Model S
- Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid
The top three finalists for the World Car Design award are:
- Aston Martin Vanquish
- Jaguar F-Type
- Mazda6
The final results will be announced at this year’s New York international Auto Show on Thursday March 28th.
