The close production relationship between Ferrari and Maserati will reap even more fruit in the near future.
Currently Ferrari’s California uses a 4,3-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine. Now Motor Trend has confirmed that Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa said the 2014 Ferrari California – reportedly to be revealed at March’s Geneva Motor Show – will be equipped with a turbocharged engine. It is rumoured that the 3,8-litre V8, twin-turbocharged engine currently doing duty in the new Maserati Quattroporte, will be tuned and fitted to the California.
This will be the first Ferrari in more than two decades to receive a turbocharged engine. The last model to get such an engine was the iconic F40.
Power is set to increase from the California’s current 360 kW/505 N.m to at least 390 kW/650 N.m. Expect the claimed acceleration time to 100 km/h to drop from the current 3,8 seconds while the top speed of 312 km/h is also set to increase.
