The first images and details of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra, called the Avante in the Korean domestic market (KDM), have emerged from South Korea.
While the previous car’s rakish silhouette has been largely retained, the new car’s styling incorporates LED-slashed headlamps, a sizable hexagonal grille and revised taillamps on a frame that’s 20 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 5 mm taller than the outgoing model.
Given the new car’s dashing looks the interior’s blocky, tiered facia is a bit of a somber affair. Among the highlights are a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and an eight-inch TFT infotainment display that, in the KDM model, is coupled with an eight-speaker JBL audio system.
The KDM engine line-up will comprise a 1,6-litre turbodiesel (134 kW) offered with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions; a 132 kW naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol and a 147 kW 2,0-litre petrol.
KDM models will also see the introduction of a number of big-car technologies, with lane departure warning, auto high-beam assist and adaptive cruise control among the number.
An official release date has not yet been confirmed, but it’s expected that the international market model will not differ significantly from the car shown here.
