A company called Young Driver Motor Cars Limited (YDMC) has begun a project to build a car aimed at drivers aged 5-10 years old. The YDMC is part of the biggest provider of pre-17 driving lessons in the United Kingdom (Under the Young Driver guise) but with this production the company hopes it can expand its reach into the younger demographic.
The unnamed vehicle will be powered by two electric motors and will be able to reach a top speed of 16 km/h. To handle this power it will be fitted with front and rear disk brakes and a fully independent suspension. It will also be produced in both right and left hand drive variants for different markets.
Seeing that this is technically an educational product, it will be fitted with safety features such as autonomous braking and can be controlled by a remote in case parents wish to assume direct control.
This creation by YDMC will be revealed at the 2016 Gadget Show Live this weekend in Birmingham with an official reveal being planned this May. Four working models will be made available for kids to test drive which YDMC hopes to draw feedback and analysis from. The cars will only be available at selected Young Driver venues in the U.K.
Kids will be using these little cars on laid out courses with traffic control systems through YDMC to perform a variety of maneuvers as well as stop at junctions, reverse, and park in an attempt to make them more comfortable with driving in their formative years.
