ABT Sportsline knows a thing or two about tuning Volkswagen Group products. And now the German specialist has turned its attention to the new VW Tiguan.
ABT says it has paid particular attention to the 2,0-litre TDI engines, offering a 132 kW/380 N.m version of the turbo-diesel four-cylinder as well as one with 158 kW/440 N.m.
The tuner has also given one of the 2,0-litre TSI petrol mills available in Europe a bit of a boost, taking it from 132 kW to 159 kW (and 360 N.m). This, though, seems an almost pointless exercise, seeing as the Wolfsburg automaker already offers a 162 kW version at the very top of the petrol range.
Still, there’s every chance ABT will upgrade this Golf GTI-sourced powerplant at a later stage, particularly when one considers its track record with the popular EA888 mill. And here’s hoping it takes a look at the 176 kW BiTDI engine, too (which, incidentally, won’t be coming to South Africa). Whether ABT will do any work on the 1,4 TSI remains to be seen.
In terms of styling, the updates are surprisingly restrained. Well, other than lopping an extra 30 mm off the already low ride-height offered by the R-Line package, that is. Oh, and a number of unique alloy wheel designs are also on the table, ranging in size from 18 to 21 inches.
