You may have heard the rumours suggesting Audi will reveal an RS1 at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. But the Ingolstadt-based brand says that’s not going to happen.
A “senior Audi insider” told motoring.com.au that a hot RS1 is simply not on the agenda.
“Currently, there are no plans to expand the A1 range to include an RS model,” the unnamed official said.
“We’re aware of the rumours but, as far as I know, an RS1 does not feature in the future product line-up,” the inside explained, before adding that one should “never say never”.
Last week, Autocar reported that the RS1 had been “given the go-ahead by Audi bosses”, suggesting that the all-wheel drive hot hatch would effectively serve as a “swansong” for the first-generation A1 range before the launch of the second-gen model in 2018.
The British publication reported that the 2017 RS1 would employ an uprated version of the brand’s familiar 2,0-litre turbocharged EA888 engine and supplant the Audi S1 (pictured above) at the summit of the A1 line-up.
Audi, though, seems to have other ideas.
