Three days to go before our Top 12 competition draws to a close and Toyota’s popular Hilux has gained more votes in the best pick up category than its two closest competitors – Colt and Isuzu KB series – put together. Make sure you vote before Friday!
After the first day of voting, Toyota’s “biltong bakkie” leads the category with 33 per cent of the vote, followed by the Colt (18) and the Isuzu KB (12). CARtoday.com Top 12’ers seem confident that the Hilux will successfully defend its title, but how close is the voting in the other categories?
There is only a margin of two per cent in the race for honours in the executive saloon and compact MPV sections, where the Lexus GS300 and Toyota Condor lead the BMW 5-Series and Renault Scénic respectively.
In the hotly contested MPV section, the Renault Espace has a five per cent lead over the Chrysler Voyager and VW Microbus – in joint second place. Similarly, the Toyota Corolla holds a six per cent edge over early-frontrunner, the Mercedes A-Class, in the best light car category, followed closely by the Golf IV.
The end result of the best budget and medium car categories look settled, though. The plucky Toyota Tazz leads the VW Chico by 18 per cent, and the highly-impressive BMW 3-Series is a comfortable 12 per cent ahead of the Mercedes C-Class.
