BMW has reportedly scrapped plans to build a hardcore, CSL-badged version of the M2.
The rumour follows a report from September in which BMW M boss Frank Van Meel said that the CSL badge would be revived and applied to a “top-of-the-line track tool”.
According to Bimmer Post, the M2 CSL project has been called off, with the team that was working on it “officially asked to do something else”.
However, BMW is reportedly still hard to work developing the new M2 Competition, which – if the latest rumours are to be believed – will replace the standard M2 next year. Furthermore, an M2 CS is seemingly also still on the table.
Last week, a report out of the United Kingdom suggested that the brand’s M division had plans to add as many as 26 new or updated variants to its high-performance range by the end of 2020.
