Reports suggest that BMW is in talks with McLaren regarding the German company’s next supercar. Although most of us would hope BMW is working on a faster i8, it seems that we could see a far more expensive car in the near future. A concept car of the planned supercar could be shown as early as next year.
Apparently BMW will use the carbon fibre tub which the British manufacturer is developing for its 650S replacement, which will form the base for its next Sport Series models.
It seems BMW will only use the tub, which means BMW will be using its own engine and transmission. Under the rear engine cover, the BMW is set to offer the new 4,0-litre, V8 turbocharged engine it is currently developing. This new engine is rumoured to develop up to 560 kW. This could mean that more than one model will be offered, for instance, an M model which will develop the full 560 kW and another offering less power.
Let’s not forget that BMW is also friendly with Toyota regarding collaborating on upcoming sports cars, and that BMW also supplied the engine for the iconic McLaren F1.
