A new report out of the Germany suggests that BMW is planning to launch a coupe version of its 7 Series sedan to take the fight to the varied Mercedes-Benz S-Class line-up.
According to Bloomberg, the Munich-based automaker will add a two-door body style to its flagship 7 Series range by 2019.
The publication adds that this proposed coupe would be the first of “several new versions BMW is considering to give sales of its top model a lift”. The new report follows fresh rumours earlier this year that the 8 Series badge would be revived.
Of course, the S-Class is already offered in a two-door flavour, and convertible and uber-luxury Maybach versions are available, too.
Other earlier reports, interestingly, suggested that BMW would add a stretched 9 Series to its line-up by 2020, to battle the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. And, of course, BMW recently slotted a plug-in hybrid derivative (dubbed the 740e) into its local 7 Series sedan range.
