BMW Group South Africa and Nissan South Africa have launched their second joint charging station for electric vehicles, this time in the Western Cape.
The three charging points, located at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in the Mother City, follow a similar collaboration in Sandton, and stem from the 2015 signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two automakers.
The new fast-charging stations at the Waterfront will offer Type 2 connections that can be used by the BMW i3 electric vehicle, the BMW i8 plug-in-hybrid as well as the electric Nissan Leaf.
The two brands say the next “confirmed charging station site” in Cape Town will be Constantia Village Mall, with timing to be confirmed “in due course”.
The two automakers have furthermore confirmed that they are working on charging infrastructure at Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria.
BMW reports that it has sold a total of 141 i3s and 159 i8s in South Africa. Nissan, meanwhile, has sold 90 Leaf units locally.
