We all know Brabus to be the tuning company that takes a standard Mercedes-Benz and turns it into an over the top high-octane machine but there is a division within the brand that is dedicated to the historical preservation of the German manufacturer’s classic productions. This particular project took 4 000 hours of labour as the technicians restored seven iconic roadsters, coupes and saloons set to be on display at the 28th Techno-Classic in Essen this year.
The vintage car division run by Brabus handled the restoration of two 300 SLs (one Gullwing and one Roadster), two W113 280 SL Roadsters, two 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolets and a 600 Pullman. These projects took place in Brabus’s 2 000 square metre plant intended for servicing and restoring Benz classics accompanied by a two-year warranty with unlimited miles.
Each car that makes its way into this plant for a restoration undergoes a routine nut and bolt rebuild that sees the inspection of every component found on the car. Brabus then reconditions whatever they can salvage while parts that are beyond repair are replaced. The original paint is also removed from the shell and replaced by a catalytic dip primer coating.
The restoration of the interior, engine and transmission gets restored to factory specification however suspension and brakes make use of more modern technology for safety purposes.
