This is the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV; a fully electric passenger vehicle for the masses with a claimed range of 320 km. The Bolt was revealed at this year’s CES in Las Vegas with features such as advanced connectivity and an enhanced driving experience. To develop the Bolt, Chevrolet has taken a lot of research based on owners of the Volt; Chevrolet’s current hybrid sedan.
There is little information regarding the mechanical fundamentals of the car as Chevrolet has focused more on presenting the driver-to-car relationship. The Bolt will be equipped with the smartphone integration system that GM has been developing with Android and Apple.
With connectivity advancements being implemented the Bolt will have the ability to predict its driving range by analysing the time of day, typography, weather and driving habits. Bluetooth connectivity is also constant even if the Bolt is inactive and will connect to your device as soon as it is in range.
OnStar 4G LTE is also implemented to turn the Bolt into a WiFi hotspot and gives patrons easier access to apps within the infotainment system found in the 10,2-inch touchscreen. A rear-facing camera and bird’s-eye view parking assists have been added as well.
Fellow Bolt owners will also be able to battle it out against one another thanks to the ‘glamification’ leaderboard where you will be able to track everyone’s driving efficiency as you fight for the top spot.
Chevrolet has not made indication as to whether the Bolt will reach South African shores but with the i3 and the Leaf being made available, the chances may be higher than expected.
