Two things have been on the rise over the past few years: autonomous driving technology and online shopping. And now Italian designer Matteo Gentile has combined the two into one. The result is this: Cifu.
Technically, Cifu is a drone. According to Gentile, the design was inspired by the characters of Pixar’s Wall-E. It looks like a capable little creation as it makes use of shocks and large tyres.
The boxy design also means it’s able to swallow mid-sized packages. And with its weather-proof exterior, Gentile says such packages can be carted safely.
The autonomous driving system makes use of several cameras, while LED lighting helps motorists and pedestrians spot Cifu in the dark.
Although Cifu is unlikely to see production, companies such as Amazon and Domino’s Pizza have already put similar plans into motion and, rumour has it, they are very close to seeing an official release.
Indeed, Domino’s already has a running prototype in Australia, although doesn’t appear to be as versatile as the Cifu concept.
