Not too long ago Citroen revealed the M Concept at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show. It was a modern beach bug inspired by the safari faring 2CV based 1968 Citroen Mehari which was speculated to never make it to production. Now, the French based manufacturer has confirmed that the M Concept will make it to the production line and be called the E-Mehari.
The E-Mehari is not far off from the M Concept’s design but it has a resemblance to the BollorĂ© Bluesummer convertible on which it will be based. The E-Mehari will feature a removable roof, folding rear bench seat and a waterproof plastic-coated upholstery.
The E-Mehari will no longer be based on the C4 Cactus which means that instead of the 1,2-litre PureTec turbocharged petrol engine it will be powered by a 30 kWh battery and an electric motor developing 50 kW with a range of 200 km and a top speed of 110 km/h. Recharging can be done in eight hours with a 16A socket or 13 hours with a 10A socket.
The E-Mehari will be built in Citroen’s French plant and is set to be made available to the public by next year’s second quarter.
