With the revival of the Datsun brand and the recent green light given to the production of its Go budget car (at the firm’s Oradagam Plant near Chennai in India), all eyes were on the Delhi Auto Expo where the company unveiled its first concept car in 30 years, the Redi Go.
Aimed squarely at the likes of Ford’s EcoSport and Renault’s Duster, the Redi Go is something of a hatchback/SUV crossover. Details about its size, specification and what might power the Redi Go will feature are as yet unconfirmed but an uprated version of the 1,2-litre motor currently powering the Go could be a possibility.
As mentioned on CARmag.co.za earlier this year, the Redi Go concept has been “created to appeal to the new generation of young and optimistic people. The new concept is distinctive and stylish, and a step forward in terms of product allure in the segment. At the same time it offers all the features required by the aspirational Datsun customers.”
Also on display alongside the Redi Go in New Delhi are the Go and Go+ MPV, which goes on sale in India next month. The Go is expected to make its South African debut in the final quarter of this year.
