A German magazine reports that there are two separate designs of the Volkswagen Golf 8 in the running ahead of the new model’s expected arrival in 2019.
Autobild says the Wolfsburg brand’s designers are working “flat out” to settle on the styling of the next generation version of the popular C-segment hatchback.
The publication reports that two markedly different designs are currently in the race. The first option is apparently more modern, and features a longer rear section and a more angular profile.
The second design is described by Autobild insiders as “timeless”, and is likely closely aligned to the seventh-generation model’s styling.
Which design will win the race? Well, the German magazine believes Volkswagen will eventually compromise, mixing the best of the modern design with the classic styling cues familiar from previous generation Golf models.
Autobild furthermore suggests that the VW Golf 8 will boast a longer wheelbase, a more compact front end and a significantly lighter kerb weight. We can, of course, expect the latest version of the Volkswagen Group’s digital instrument cluster to find its way into the new Golf, too.
