Ford has kept Blue Oval fans and petrolheads on tenterhooks as it drip fed us information on the latest Focus RS. Earlier this year we saw official pics and were informed about engine details. We already know that power is to come from a turbocharged 2,3-litre inline four that features direct injection, what we didn’t know until know was how much power.
Well, that question has finally been answered. Maximum power will be 258 kW allied with a similarly impressive 440 N.m of torque with an additional 30 N.m on tap for up to 15 seconds via an overboost function. Max torque is on tap from 2 000-4 500 r/min.
Torque will be doled out through a six-speed manual transmission to all four wheels. Up to 70 per cent of available torque can be sent to the rear axle. There are several driving modes, including Drift Mode (cool!) to allow tail-out antics, the likes of which none of its all-wheel drive rivals do very well on dry tar.
Judging by the comparative pricing of other Focus models the RS should be well-priced in SA, offering up Mercedes A45 AMG type power and performance for (hopefully) less money than a VW Golf R.
