Great Wall Motors South Africa has added a new model to its SUV line-up. Dubbed H5 City, the entry-level model will offers the experience of a full size SUV, at a significantly reduced cost.
The H5 City still looks very much like its pricier siblings, with body-coloured bumpers, 17-inch wheels and integrated mirror indicators – with nearly 200 mm of ground clearance. It’s powered by the company’s normally aspirated 2,4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 100 kW at 5 200 r/min and 200 N.m of torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
Inside, the H5 City benefits from a new facia, with piano black trim and silver accents. The standard features list includes climate control, radio/CD player with USB and auxiliary inputs, front and rear fog lamps, auto headlamps and windshield wipers, Isofix anchor points on the rear seat and electric windows all-round.
The H5 City retails for R244 900, and comes with a standard five-year/100 000 km warranty and two-year roadside assistance programme. A five year/60 000 km service plan is available as an option.
“Customers looking for a spacious, family sized SUV have increasingly been forced to compromise due to the rise of new vehicle prices during 2014. The H5 City is based on proven underpinnings, boasts a more extensive standard features list than you may expect and, due to its size and interior packaging, offers unbeatable practicality at its price,” says Warren Olsen, COO of GWM South Africa.
