GWM first showed us the M4 on local soil at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) late in 2013 (see the video below). Back then the company said that the M4 would be priced “well-below R200 000”. It has stuck to its promise, as this compact crossover is priced from R189 999.
As previously reported, the GWM M4 is fitted with a 1,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 71 kW at 6 000 r/min and 138 N.m at 4 200. The claimed fuel consumption is 7,2 litres per 100 km (172 g/km of CO2) and top speed is said to be 170 km/h.
Safety features include two airbags and ABS with EBD braking system.
Set to do battle with cars such as Ford’s EcoSport, the M4 offers ground clearance of 180 mm. The 16-inch alloy wheels, black cloth upholstery and 60:40-split rear seat are all standard features. Other standard luxury and comfort features include air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors and an audio system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
The list price includes a 5 year/100 000 km warranty as well as a 5 year/45 000 km service plan.
