The GWM Steed 5 2,0 WGT Workhorse is already one of South Africa’s cheapest turbodiesel bakkies. But now the Chinese brand has slashed R20 000 off this derivative’s R199 900 asking price.
Yes, in celebration of the GWM brand’s tenth year in South Africa (it says it has sold more than 55 000 vehicles locally during this time), the price of this rear-wheel drive, single-cab bakkie is now R179 900.
The Steed 5 Workhorse is powered by a 2,0-litre oil-burner (linked to a five-speed manual) worth 78 kW and 225 N.m, with the latter on tap between 1 400 and 2 800 r/min. GWM claims a combined fuel consumption of 8,1 L/100 km.
Standard kit includes foglamps front and rear, air-conditioning and rake-adjustable steering, while a three-year/100 000 km warranty is also included (the service plan, with intervals of 15 000 km, is optional). However, take note that this particular variant does without ABS and airbags.
Interestingly, it appears that the brand is offering similar discounts on other derivatives, with the Steed 5 2,2 MPI 4×2 Workhorse now R149 900 (R15 000 cheaper than before), the Steed 5 2,2 MPI 4×2 Safety now R169 900 (that’s R10 000 off) and the Steed 5 2,0 VGT 4×2 now R219 900 (also down R10 000).
There’s no indication how long these promotions will run.
