This is crazy, but that good kind of crazy, the kind that makes petrolheads thankful for car shows and the beautiful concepts they spawn. Introducing the Honda Project 2&4 concept.
The Project 2&4 concept is, according to Honda, a ‘cabin-less’ sports car that ‘the freedom of a motorcycle and the manoeuvrability of a car’ i.e 2 & 4 wheels.
Winning design
The Project 2&4 concept is the winner of an internal design competition that Honda set within its worldwide studios, involving 80 engineers and designers from both motorcycle and automotive studios.
Along with some exposure to the elements, the rational behind the 2&4 concept is to recreate the sensation of riding a motorcycle without the scary likelihood of falling off.
MotoGP power
Project 2&4 is powered by an engine borrowed from the road-going version of Honda’s current MotoGP bike, the RC213V. The 1,0-litre V4 produces 158 kW at 13 000 r/min and weighs in at just 405 kg, which makes for a staggering 395 kW/ton power to mass ratio. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
F1 inspiration
F1 fundis will, no doubt, have spotted the red and white livery that is a nod to Honda’s 1965 RA272 F1 car and the more recent BAR Hondas.
