Honda has released a sketch of a new sub-compact SUV it calls the WR-V, revealing plans to put into production soon, with South American consumers chiefly in mind.
The Japanese automaker will unveil the real thing at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show next month, before putting it into production for “Brazil and other countries in South America”.
Honda R&D Brazil says it developed the WR-V as an SUV with a “tough and urban” design, claiming that it has “excellent utility within a compact body size”.
The WR-V is expected to slot into Honda’s South American line-up below the HR-V (the BR-V, which recently arrived in South Africa to replace the Mobilio, doesn’t appear to be offered in South America).
Although not yet confirmed, we strongly suspect that the WR-V is based on the Honda Jazz. No word yet on whether the Japanese automaker will offer this new model outside the initial markets, either.
So, you’re no doubt wondering what WR-V stands for? Well, that’d be “Winsome Runabout Vehicle”, according to Honda…
