Who doesn’t love a classic Mini, right? Well, if you have intentions of purchasing this particular example – a 1964 Morris Mini Cooper – you’ll need a whole lot more than mere love. You’ll need a fairly fat wallet, too.
Set to go under the hammer at the Silverstone Classic Sale at the end of July 2016, the car offered here is a 1964 Morris Mini Cooper 998cc, manufactured for the UK market in October 1964 and dispatched in November 1964 to a dealership in Coventry.
In fact, it still wears its original Coventry numberplate, and retains its original chassis and drive-train, too.
It was discovered by a previous owner back in 1979 during a business trip to a farm in Kent. Purchased on the spot to prevent the farmer’s sons from “rallying” it around the fields, it soon became apparent that it was in very sound order.
Over the ensuing years, the owner stripped it right down, replacing the Hydrolastic suspension with Alex Moulton’s dry rubber system, which was re-introduced to the Mini a few years after this particular example was built.
Finished red and white when purchased on the farm back in 1979, the car was repainted in its original combination of Tweed Grey and Old English White, and remains in standard specification, including the original interior, with the exception of wider vented wheels and a sports steering wheel.
So, how much will it set you back? Well, Silverstone Auctions puts the estimate between £17 000 and £20 000 (around R325 000 and R382 000)…
