Last year we brought you images of a China-only Hyundai iX25. Earlier today the Korean manufacturer released this design sketch of its upcoming Creta small SUV. As you can see, the family face is clearly evident, bearing a strong resemblance to models such as the Santa Fe.
The world launch of the Creta is set for July 21 and, as it takes place in India (where many South African sold Hyundai models are sourced), it is highly likely that we will see the Creta here in SA. The design sketch of the interior already shows a right-hand drive model, which bodes well for local Hyundai fans. As the parent firm is keen to rename the current iX35 to Tucson, it is unlikely that the ix25 nomenclature will be adopted for the new model.
As we speculated with the iX25 model, the Creta will in all likelihood be based on one of the firm’s small hatchback models, most likely the i20. This means that power and transmission options will be similar to those of the i20.
With dimensions of roughly four metres in length and 1,8 metres wide, the Creta will go up against the likes of Ford’s EcoSport, Renault’s Duster, and Kia’s Soul in the burgeoning small SUV/crossover segment of the market.
