South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai has taken the wraps off its i20 variant, redesigned as a coupé to introduce the next phase of the model. The new model, like the standard i20, will be aimed at the young and lifestyle-oriented consumers.
In terms of design, the A-, B-, and C-pillars have been adjusted to help the i20 fit into more of a coupé design making it 25 mm lower than the standard five-door model. The black finish on the C-pillar has also been replaced with a design similar to Opel’s Adam. Other revisions include a redesigned front- and rear bumper, head- and taillamps and a boot spoiler.
In terms of the interior, not much has changed apart from an orange accents. The new coupé design also provides this i20 with an extra 10 litres of boot capacity and a lower NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) figure.
The 1,2-litre and 1,4-litre petrol engines remain, but a new 1,0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol T-GDI engine will be introduced, producing either 74 kW or 88 kW depending on trim levels.
Including this coupé, the i20 range will now have four different variants: the standard model, the N-Sport and the i20 Active crossover. We have the standard i20 in our long-term fleet.
