Hyundai has taken the opportunity to reveal two racing grade productions at this year’s Frankfurt International Motorshow. Meet the N 2025 VGT Concept and the 2016 Hyundai i20 WRC.
N 2025 VGT
Although it’s a car that will never be made, Hyundai claim that this Gran Turismo exclusive virtual car is an impression of what it hopes to achieve with its newly formed ‘N-Sport’ brand. In its virtual world the N 2025 will run off a mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell system allowing it to achieve a power output of 650 kW.
The vision car will also feature energy regeneration through braking and an independent-wheel drive system. Thanks to the lightweight fuel cell stacks the N 2025 only weighs 972 kg and is built around a boat-shaped underbody structure. Underflow air supply ducts at the rear also create minimal pressure in order for the body to generate more downforce.
With its 200 000 r/min air blower turbine, hydrogen cooling system and motor-wheel combination the N 2025 also claims to be extremely loud despite being an Eco-friendly racer.
i20 WRC
Over in the real world the i20 has been given the WRC treatment in preparation for next year’s calendar. This is the first official production of the N-Sport division and it looks to be a good start. The i20 aims to be a more successful car thanks to an optimised weight distribution, better powertrain efficiency and updated aerodynamics. With the previous i20 just achieving one victory in 2014 this one will have to step up to the plate.
