Admittedly, not the most exciting thing to come out of the Volkswagen factory the Ameo is a PQ25 based Polo Sedan aimed at the lower income demographic and will be produced and only be available in India. The Ameo is pretty much the same concept as our Vivo but this one comes with a lot more goodies.
In terms of styling it doesn’t take a long time to notice the Ameo’s relation to the current gen Polo; the front end is almost identical while the rear receives a new yet familiar boxy design to incorporate the added boot space. Despite being a fairly cheap model, the Ameo is equipped with add-ons such as 15-inch alloy wheels, door mirror indicators, chrome strips and driving lights.
Within the cabin owners will be able to make use of Bluetooth connectivity, a front central armrest, rear vents, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and automatic windshield wipers. For the sake of safety dual front airbags, cruise control, and an infotainment system with MirrorLink support is included. Additional options include a cooled glove box, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera.
Driving the budget beating Ameo will be either a naturally-aspirated 55kW 1,2-litre three-cylinder or a 66kW turbodiesel 1,5-litre four-cylinder making use of a five-speed manual transmission. An optional seven-speed DSG is available for the diesel model.
It will never be made available to the South African market but estimates suggest that the Ameo will cost no more than R190 000.
