Hyundai-Kia chief design officer Peter Schreyer has confirmed that the Korean automaker is working on a production version of the Telluride concept that was revealed as a full-size, seven-seater SUV back in 2016.
“For sure, we are working on that car,” Schreyer told Australia journalists at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to motoring.com.au.
Schreyer added that he was “not aware” whether the production version – which would slot in to Kia’s SUV line-up above the Sorento – would also be built for right-hand-drive markets.
Kia Motors Europe’s chief designer, however, said that while the new vehicle wouldn’t “make that much sense” in Europe, he expected it to roll out to markets other than North America.
“It is a more difficult segment for us. We are pretty good with Sorento with large SUV in Europe,” Gregory Guillaume said, according to GoAuto.com.au.
“I could imagine that there are other markets that would be interested in taking it … apart from America, so there could be other markets that are interested,” Guillaume added.
