Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali says he expects the Italian brand’s annual sales to at least double once the long-awaited SUV is added to the range.
The new SUV, which will be based on the Urus concept pictured above, is expected to hit the market in 2018. And Domenicali says once this model has joined the line-up, he expects total annual sales to pass the 7 000-mark.
“We will push like hell [to sell 3 500 or more SUVs a year],” Domenicali told Automotive News. “It’s a big game-changer,” he added.
However, Domenicali went on to emphasise that the brand would not lose its primary focus.
“We will not, clearly, give up on our DNA, which is to produce super-sports-cars,” he insisted.
In 2015, the Volkswagen-owned Lamborghini brand sold a record 3 245 vehicles, although Domenicali suggested that a planned supercar production cap of 3 500 units would be implemented before the arrival of the SUV.
