This is the MX-5 Speedster Evolution and RF Kuro, a pair of tuned Mazdas set to be displayed at SEMA next week as a follow-up from last year’s Spider and Speedster Concepts.
These particular cars borrow design cues from the MX-5 Cup car.
The Speedster Evolution is essentially a facelift of the Speedster Concept shown last year. It’s now 160 kg lighter than the standard roadster, meaning it weighs well under a ton.
The RF Kuro, meanwhile, is based on the retractable-fastback MX-5, set to be released early next year. “Kuro” refers to the semi-matte metallic colour of the car and means “charcoal” in Japanese.
This model sits on a set of 215/45R17 BFGoodrich Rival G-Force tyres and RAYS forged wheels. Ride height has also been dropped with the adjustable suspension found in the MX-5 Cup car.
Expect to see more of these two at next week’s SEMA show.
