McLaren Automotive may be relatively new to the supercar market, but it seems intent to bring out new models with regularity. As it readies the P1 hypercar for production the engineers at Woking have been busy developing an entry-level model to take on the likes of Porsche’s high-end 911s and Audi’s top R8 models. This will grow the McLaren family to three models.

Dubbed P13, the new car is based on the firm’s carbon-fibre monocoque and is said to employ a similar 3,8-litre, twin-turbo V8 as its two siblings, the MP4-12c and P1. In the P13 the power output will be detuned to a reported 330 kW, which although less than some of its rivals can still be formidable thanks to a low kerb weight and no all-wheel drive system to lug around. Perhaps the new model will also have less turbo lag than the MP4-12C, one of the main criticisms of that car.

No word on a potential launch date of the P13, but judging by the the success of the MP4-12c here in SA we can’t see the local importer not bringing to SA soon after its international debut.
